A big thumbs up to our Sheriff's department!

Now, I know that there is some skepticism about Norman and myself being two different people. The truth is; We are. Norman and I think a lot differently.

Norman posted a poll titled "Who's to blame?" and in that article/poll, he mentioned that the Sheriff's Dept (lead by Sheriff David Jonese and Major David Walton) took unauthorized action to provide the good citizens some relief (and in all likelihood survival) from being powerless due to the recent storm that paralyzed the county.

I would like to go on the record and congratulate and thank the deputies, Major David Walton and of course Sheriff David Jonese on a job well done! Their insight into how serious this situation really was truly helped out the county and the people that suffered and are still suffering.

Sheriff Jonese showed great leadership by personally helping prepare meals for the hungry. He and Major David Walton demonstrated tremendous leadership in responding immediately to the county's people and our safety. Sheriff David Jonese and his troop are modern day heroes folks. Please acknowledge this.

Absolutely serious. I am not being in any way sarcastic. They did and are doing a great job. Don't question a good thing. We have had our differences with the Sheriff's Dept but, that is in the past. We need to work on the future now.

Run a Muck was only trying to get votes. You do not see him unless he is doing something which will make him look good... not for the good of the county. He is such a joke.

You are so wrong about him using this as a political opportunity. The man truly has a heart of gold and if you knew him you would know that. You can check with 911 to see just how many hours he put in since the storm. He would start by helping with breakfast every morning and went througout the county checking to see what folks needed. Because of him and his deputies people had hot meals, bottled water, generators and even portable showers brought in so people could bathe. He is not a politician in any way. He simply cares about the people of our county. If I know him like I think I do, the election was the last thing on his mind during this crisis. He's a home town boy who came back to Pocahontas to make a difference!

So is there any truth to the rumors that the sheriff's department was giving tickets to those that were bathing in the river? Some of us couldn't get to the portable showers and some of us were needing a bath way before all of the showers were ever put in. What about when jonese cut through the line at the Dollar Store claiming he was the next best thing since sliced bread? What about the members of the community that helped their neighbors in need? We all survived at least 2 days on our own. I think we all deserve a pat on the back.

It is absolutely true that he was giving out tickets. He tried giving one to a man that works long hours on the train in Cass, in 103 degrees all day long and he was in the river. The superintendent of the park saw that the 2 men were arguing and he came down and told Jonese that his men have every right to be in the river and Jonese said "Don't you think it's a little STRANGE to be in the river in the first place at 6PM" ummmmmm people are in the river at that time outage or no outage. The Cass employee did not end up getting issued a ticket b/c the superintendent told him to stop harassing his employees. INDEED others were issued tickets which is ridiculous. I saw JOnese at the Observatory one day when I went to get ice. One of the deputies was being very kind to me and Jonese was looking at him with a very mad look, jaws clenching, b/c I have been arrested before. He even interrupted the conversation. So I guess if you have ever done wrong it is not believed that you deserve the kindness that others do. People do change, I have myself. And he doesn't care, so I guess he didn't think I deserved ice, or for the kind deputy to carry out water to the car. When he realized an older family member was with me, and he saw this, he quit the attitude real fast.

Absolutely community volunteers deserve a HUGE thank you for the way our communities came together with neighbor helping neighbor. Jonese was instrumental in organization of aid but without everyone who helped not nearly as much would have been accomplished. To name a few I know of; the staff at GB senior center, Blair from The Pretty Penny, High Rocks academy staff and students,NRAO staff, deputies family members, sheriff's familly members,Bobby at Trents for working hard to keep gas, Allen and Holly at Henry's for donations of food, Pocahontas Board of Ed for food and use of schools for showers, employees at the courthouse, GReen Bank Dollar staff for going above and beyond to let people shop, and so many I can't name them all. We came together just like a good community should.

Thumbs Up, is not the digit that comes to MY mind in relation to CHIEF RUN A MUCK AND HIS BRAVES...Let`s ask the victims of the greatest Deputy in the world which finger they would use....Let`s ask the people that got unfair tickets from half witted deputies who lack MORAL TURPITUDE....Totten 12 counts,Nelson plead guilty to felony assault with a base ball bat on the public road at age 19 of 2 people....What digit would those victims would use?????Cole who got run out of KENTUCKY FOR TRAFFICKING STOLEN ELECTRONICS wonder what finger would be used in that state?????

Nice post Arbowail yet, if you notice, I was speaking specifically about the storm. I admire your candor (and wit) but, I am not one bit above patting someone on the back for doing a good job. On the other hand, I am not one bit above slapping someone up side their head for doing what Totten did. I thought that by now, you of all people would have understood that.

I did not see him at all and I was out and about. Did not see him offer any help where I live nor did I ever see a sheriff's vehicle on my road.

He was all show for votes.

Yeah,Chief-Jonese-Runamuck was always seen FIRST IN LINE getting fed, as well as in any given store since after all, he is a wannabe-sheriff and therefore thinks he comes first! Isn't it true that for the first couple of days the chief & his wannabe-braves were at the Greenbrier Golf Tournament guarding the media-celebrities from being hit by falling leaves or tree branches? And what about the generators taken from Pocahontas County to Richwood? Did the sheriff & his gophers also take water to Richwood to wash the police cars there also?

The reality about Jonese is that he has never made an honest dollar that wasn't from public funds -- or public rocks & stones! He's spent his entire life living off public funds -- is he no different than anyone else living off "public welfare"? The exception is that the welfare given Jonese -- and now his other family members -- is thousands more than someone unemployed!

And the only way chief-runamuck can control his deputies is to have them dumber than himself so the chief can remain in control and pretend to be smarter! 'Tis a sad day in Pocahontas County for sure! Who would have thought that it could get worse than the days when that dummie-Dale was parading around like some Hollywood-nazi?
