i thought we were declared a federal emergency not a disaster? isn't that the gov's call?
I will be calling the FEMA office and will try to get all of the specifics.
Okay, I'm gonna try this again, as my first post was deleted. My post was providing information about FEMA status and my experiences during the '85 flood. So if it is deleted again, I will assume that the information is not wanted and the whole intent of this conversation is to fuel a fire.
Although we are declared a diaster area by President Obama, it is up to the discretion of FEMA to determine what Category status.

We are currently in Category B as is many other counties in WV. Category B provides assistance to regain utilities, clear roads and bridges, as well as restoring water. It also provides for immediate water, food, and shelter needs for the public. Our case number is: Disaster Summary For FEMA-EM-3345, West Virginia. FEMA is in Diaster Assistance Mode and not Recovery Mode yet. Currently there was not enough structural damages to homes and public buildings to change the status.

FEMA is not an individual entitlement program. Individuals must tap into their homeowners insurance first before FEMA will kick in, provided that the Category status changes. FEMA will be visiting the county on Monday. During the '85 flood this was the process and is still the process. Linda Tomblin was here yesterday and is returning to Charleston with the information for our county.
Okay, there it is in a nutshell and I am providing this to assist. The many complaints against the local media and the factual reporting are actually not relevant. It takes an actual review of the area affected before an accurate assessment can be made. I'm pretty much sure that FEMA is not anxiously awaiting the next edition of the Times to determine their course of action. Let's use some common sense and civility and most definitely patience is required. My family in the '85 flood did not have power restored for 40 days. Completely different degree of diaster back then.
